Baby got booty, 1995 Rear end swap for SS

Talking Baby got booty, 1995 Rear end swap for SS

New here, so excuse the newb'ness. Thanks for all advice on my first post. Anyway, I have the possibility of picking up a 3.42 Ratio rear end with brakes attached off an SS for $200. What do you guys think about this, is it possible will everything line/match up, is it worth it? Also there are a few parts I am looking at which include:

All are off a 1994 z28 being parted out

Computer with Hypertech Tune and LT4 Knock Module-$80

New Ac Delco OptiSpark Cap and Rotor-$80

3" GM Mass Air Flow Sensor (Can be used for DSM)-$40

Black hood in Excellent Shape-$50 (I need a new hood)

As far as the rear end goes, everything will bolt up, but the question is: Do you have traction control and does the SS have traction control. You either need both to be yes or both to be no in order for your ABS to continue working.

The Camaro does not have traction control, however I am not sure about the ls1 rear end, is there a quick way to tell, also would it be a bad idea to run ABS just on the front brakes? If I am dead wrong let me know lol....

The quickest way to tell if the SS has TC is to check with who ever is selling the rear end. If it's off the car, a non-TC rear end with have a mounting point for a sensor in the dif housing and it won't have individual wheel speed sensors on each hub. As far as your ABS is concerned, you either have it or you don't, it can't choose wheels to run on. If it detects any of the 3 sensors not functioning properly you'll have the ABSinop light on your gauge cluster turn on and the ABS will not function.

Sounds good! I'll contact the seller and get to the bottom of this for sure, if it all is good do you think its a good idea? also any insight on the other parts I listed?

A full rear end swap is the easiest way to change gear ratios, although you don't increase the strength. If that's what you're looking to do and the SS didn't have TC it seems like a decent plan to me. As far as the other parts:

The LT4 Knock Module is removable, the computer itself is useless to you, the Hypertech programmer gets you a whopping 3 HP. That said, the LT4 KM probably won't get you anything on an otherwise stock LT1 anyway. The only issue you would have with needing an LT4 KM is if you're running headers in which case it might buy you some timing in the top end.

Not sure exactly what you mean by "3 inch" MAF, stock diameter for the MAF is 2.93" (74.5mm) and upgraded housings are usually 3.15" (80mm). 3" is right in the middle of those...

I wouldn't purchase the cap and rotor, when your opti needs replaced you're best bet is to replace the entire unit with a new sealed unit instead of just swapping the cap and rotor.

If you need a hood that seems decent as long as it's in good shape.
