Unless you just had the engine apart and are putting it back together, your "too much noise" is most likely to be from a bad lifter(s). Hydraulic lifter engines don't generally just "fall out of adjustment".

i just had the motor put together couple of months ago.

I am actually going to be doing this tomorrow, work permitting. I replaced the head gaskets today and put the heads on. I think I am going to use the up/down method for starters and then fine tune it, if it starts with the engine running. First time I have adjusted rockers on LT1.

i had to readjust miine after a couple hundred miles. seems one was sticking or something to began with and has been working fine now after adjusting.
