Sounds like the linkage is off or sumthin. Since one down from park should be reverse, something is outta whack. Need to get under the car and look at what the linkage arm on the trans is doing while a helper runs it through the gears. The arm could have come loose, or the cable mount could have come loose, etc.

Sounds like the sun gear carrier to me. The factory one is weak, had mine go out in my truck same symptoms. How many miles on it?

I dunno 69

think about it. I might agree with you if for example he could not get into low. As you pull the lever back from park the next stop is rev. He says he pulls back and gets D so the cable is still attached. The question is how much travel is this "one down" ?

sounds like a sprag to me

lol....oh man. I swear I saw that he was hitting reverse further down the gate. Ok, who took the words out? Yep, I don't see it as a linkage issue either.
I'm gonna go rub my eyes some more now! heh, heh

if this were a truck I'd tell you to slide underneath and move the lever on the tranny tio reverse and see if it actually goes into revers.

But, since it's a camaro you'll need to get her up on stands (all wheels in the air) and slide under and put it in R and see if it turns.

stupid question but did you check your fluid level?
