any one ever installed a short shifter??

i have a 95 z28 6 speed and i wanted to shorten my throw a little to take some small time off and wondered if any one knew how to install one or could walk me threw it..

also i dont know if this is what you would call "skipshift" but when im at low rpm's driving threw town not trying to draw attention when i shift from 1st to second it like pushes me to 4th instead of second... is this the skipshift junk i have heard of or does this sound like a problem?

any ways to fix this?
