im looking for new tail lights on my '96 and ive seen multiple that say 1993-1996 or 1997-2002. but the cars werent even changed until 1998 and even then the only difference with the tail lights that i know of is the orange on the '98-02 models. So is there a difference between the '96 and '97 tail lights or would i be okay buying ones that say 1997-02?

Taillights 1997-up are the same. I changed my old 96 to the 97 style lights since I liked the new amber look better. And both old and new style fits the body the same. The difference between them is the configuration of the tabs on the light sockets and the slots on the housings. To make it work, you need to do some trimming on either the new light housings or the old socket tabs (I used a utility knife). One won't fit the other without doing a little carving.
