Default 1995 a/c probelm

So, the ac on my camaro was working fine last summer until i turned it on a few days ago and it was blowing hot air. I then bought some some refrigerant and it would not take it. I then checked the pressure and it said it was full and i tried to empty it out some of what it had in it. I then tried to fill it with refrigerant again and it took a whole can but it's still blowing hot air. Any ideas. Thx

Is you compressor turning on? I don't know much about A/C, and it is something that I generally leave to the pros. But, I do know that if your compressor isn't turning on, then it won't work.

Yep, ^^^ check the compressor like Grandpaswagon said. If it is not working, check the fuse and relay that control it.

i checked both the fuses and relays and they where fine. The compressor still would not turn on, any more ideas to check?

Could be the ac clutch not engaging on the compressor. I don't know how to test it though. Do you have voltage on the wiring harness going to the compressor?

have it scanned for trouble codes. a good scanner will let you know if one of the ac sensors has shut down the sytem.

also another little trick to see if its the clutch. while you have it turned on, tap the front plate of the compressor with a hammer and see if it engages.

2 things will keep the clutch from engauging when the heater controls are set to A/C. The first is too much pressure and the second is not enough pressure. If your Oriface tube is clogged you will build pressure to the shut off point and then get nothing. The Oriface tube is the point in the A/C system that the expansion and cooling occure and if it is clogged it will not allow any of this to happen. If it is clogged I would recomend a prefessional A/C system service that includes a flush, new Reciever/Dryer, and an Oriface tube. They will flush the system, check for leaks, refill the oil, and recharge the R134a to the proper levels. Around here this full service runs around $250 with an occasional summer special of $200. I dont know about your area but it seems the places that get hotter have it a little cheaper since they get more volume.

make sure you have a enough freon once thats done you can bypass the pressure swith with a paperclip to check the compressor, it should kick right in and also check for any noticeable leaks.....
