1/2 quart too much oil?
So a buddy of mine changed my oil this weekend and when we first checked it it all looked fine. I'm in a wheel chair and can't get under the car which is why he did it for me, usually does. I always use 5 qts and did the same thing this time. Looked good on the stick but oil pressure read a bit high on first start. Not way high just maybe 5lbs-7lbs or so. I checked my oil when I got home today and it looked like it's about 1/2 qt too full now for some reason. The oil pressure goes to normal when warm and again, only runs a bit higher than it used to when cold. Don't know if I'd call it abnormal. It's at about 50-55lbs when driving not warmed up. I've got 5w30 in it. Should I worry too much about this? Hasn't seemed to had any noticeable affect. I don't want to bother him again so if I need to remove some I might try the small hose down the dipstick, syringe trick to remove some. I feel like it's been something left and right with my car lately lol.

The only downside to overfilling oil is if you put to mush oil in it the crank will slap the oil and whipping air into it making it foam-ish. Foaming oil will drop oil pressure dramatically.
The short answer is you should remove the oil, the long answer is you are not seeing any air bubble on the di stick it is probably fine.
Couple things to note, Car should be level while oil is being checked and over filled oil will not cause an increase oil pressure. If you change your oil and you get higher oil pressure you got a oil filter with a higher resistance to flow.

No bubbles on the dipstick. Interesting about the filter, I didn't know that. It's the same filter I've ordered in the past but maybe they updated it somehow. Would it only cause higher pressure when it's cold? Once warm at idle it drops to about 18lbs which is what it has always done and on the highway runs at about 35-40lbs, again, as always.

mine gains a few pounds when cold right after oil changes too almost all at low rpms, i just figured it was new oil and was working a bit better. after a few days it goes back to normal. mines 60 at cold and 40-60 when warm depending on rpms.

That is a good filter, any resistance to oil flow will be greater cold then at operational temp.
Think of your oil system as a sump pump, If the sump pump runs out of water you loose pressure but if there is an extra 1/4" of water in the basement that would not cause the pump to pump more.

Thanks for the input guys. Sounds like it's still in the normal range even though it's a bit higher than it was. I'll keep an eye on it. It does have a new oil pressure sensor too that was put in a few weeks before the oil change so it's possible it's always been higher after oil change but the old cracked sensor didn't read it quite right.
