Default engine oil

i was using 5w-30 as it recommended, but i saw in my haynes repair manual the 10w-30 is prefered and is better for hotter weather but since i did that a couple days later its not running like it used to, could this be a reason why ?

nope basically the same oil when the engine is warm. 10w is a little thicker when cold, sick

No, a change of oil to a different weight is not going to alter a car performance or the way it runs. You have other problems, and you didn't say how it was different.

Was the oil filter changed too? Filters have a bypass (most of them) and that could cause a drop in oil pressure. Oil by itself shouldn't have a MAJOR impact on how the car drives. If anything, 5w-30 would give you higher oil pressure since it's thinner and flow through the engine more readily.

i know that this post is 2 months old but there is a comment that i would like to expand on. blackz87 stated that oil will not change the performance of your engine.

now this statement is not true. while chances are if you were seing a major change in the cars performance to the negative chances are that you have other problems,......but we have dyno tested all different brands of oil as well as weight of oil and there is gains to be made. in some cases we have been able to pick our customers up 15 or more horsepower on oil alone.

Synthetics for example and lighter oils have less parasitic properties. Thicker ones are more resistant to fuel dilusion.

The reply was for that question in the Post and Not about any different brands oil increasing performance & HP on dyno tests. My reply stands.

As I stated... Oil Brands AND Weights. The post stands as different weights can absolutely affect the way a motor runs/performs. Sorry if that offends you.

You clearly state the oils weight is " not going to alter a car performance " ... Well Dyno tests we have run in our engine shop have absolutely proven that statement wrong. Again, sorry if that offends you.

why you asking for info.you dyno engines and know the gains of different brands of oil,why would you ask if changing oil would make your engine run like crap.going from 5-30 to10-30 aint going to make your plugs foul or make you all of a sudden need a tune -up.you have some other problem not related to the oil change.i think blackz87 was refering to the viscosity change would not make it run like crap
