i just bought a 2002 z28 with 123k the other day and there is a whining noise coming from the front of the motor. it is very loud. any idea what it could be? my dad said it could be an ac compressor or idler pully but i just want some more input. thanks.

 

Could be a bearing going out on the alternator, a pulley, or a failing belt tensioner... Post an audio clip -- might help.

 

yah depends on what kind of whine. power steering pump will also do it. is it loud? does it effect the steering or any other systems? does it change like when u turn on the ac or turn the steering wheel or turn on the lights?
