Default Weights in trunk for better traction ???

I have a 98 Z28 camaro the only mod done atm is straight piped and im have a really bad time keeping traction wether its gasing it alittle or alot my back wheels dont want to hold traction. I have the stock 16 inch chrome rims with 245/50/zr16 Fierce UHP tires on. I was told my rear end is very light thats why my tires are spinning so much and i was told if i put 2 45 pound plates in my trunk where my t-tops go it would help traction quite a bit. Is this true ? Would i feel the affects ? any suggestions would be helpful i dont have alot of money right now so i cant do anything to huge.

Adding weight to the rear end will help, but you also have to consider that's more weight that your car has to carry around with it. I'd suggest going with a better tire, possibly upgrading to a 275 in the process. I know that when I replaced my 245's with the 275's I have now it made a huge difference, between the better rubber and a wider contact patch you can get good results.

if u wanted wider tires like 275 or 295, you are going to need new wider rims, like 9" wide or 11" wide rims.

The wider the better anything from 275 and up. Just make sure the rim can handle the size

Don't worry about the street legal thing, there is a stupid club where people have their cars riding on 30's + wheels. So street legal is not an issue.

You need to be concerned about what YOUR rims can handle, on a 16x8 a 255 wide tire is pushing it. As mentioned you will need to widen your wheels to 9" to get the 275 + tires on there.

Also remember that tire compound has as much (or more) to do with traction as width.
