What is the best way to make an LS1 sound good without busting your wallet?

You could just get a different muffler.

Take a look at the flowmasters. On my 94 Z28 i have them. Not sure exactly which series I have but the exaust is stock all the way to the flowmaster muffler. And it sounds great. Gets alot of attention. Especially the dern cops!!! The muffler itself was $150 then about another $125 to have it installed. Hope this helps

don't go with flowmasters on an ls1 they rob your of power a good cheap muffler would be magnaflow but if you want to spend less money go on ebay and look up an electronic exhaust cut out they run about $160 and give you the option of running your car with or without the muffler. It gives you a real ratical sound
