you want a manual valve body then right? Transgo makes them for the 4L60E, but thats the only bit i really know.

What is the real advantage of a ratchet shifter?

On a transmission like yours, where the computer is controlling how and where it shifts, a ratchet shifter is only a cosmetic addition. And, it'll also to make your right hand feel important. That's why F.D. asked if you're going to have a manual valve body, so you could control the trans.

I was wondering if there wasnt much of a real gain. Has anyone had much luck with the transgo shift kit?

Transgo supposedly makes a good product in their shift kits so i hear, but regarding their manual valve bodies I am unsure. You already have a stall which is good and gears, a manual valve body wouldnt be a bad next step for you, if you want the ability to manually control the transmission

Despite what everyone is saying....here's the scoop on the ratchet shifter and how it affects your transmission. . Yes the 4L60E shifts via computer control, so, you DO NOT need a manual valve body You can control the shift points of where you want it to shift by buying the programmer which allows for adjusting the shift points. Then you use the ratchet shifter for its intended use...its purpose is to be able to "Ratchett" thru the gears with force as quickly as possible without missing any gears. The ratchett will stop at each gear so you don't accidently wind up in another gear( which would then have the transmission controlling the shifting according to the gear you would be in) or worse....you could wind up in neutral if you missed. B&M and Hurst are the industry leaders of the Ratchett. Look em up.
