Default New and looking to buy 4th gen LS1

Hey everybody! I'm 15 and live in harker heights texas. I'm looking to buy a 1998-2002 LS1 camaro or its cousin the firebird as a secondary car that may become primary. I was wondering if anybody had any things to look and watch out for and which years are better? It will preferably be an automatic, but may be a stick. My budget is $10,000 - $15,000, but am looking to be under $10,000 so I have extra money for modifications. Insurance is not an issue and will be paying cash for the camaro

Thank you for the help!

My daily driver is a 2011 Genesis coupe 2.0T

It hasn't evene been 24 hours since you posted this. This is a forum, not a chatroom so answers will not come instantly.

There are a couple topics just like this one, try searching for them and see what you can find. The newer the better, 2001-2002 would be preferred as they got the LS6 intake and Z06 clutch (if 6 spd).

I wish I had a LS1 f body as a secondary car, at age 15 lol. heck, I would have liked A car at 15 haha.

Yeah I'm lucky to have a brand new car(especially since it was the 1st 2011 genesis coupe in Texas) and to be getting another car 3 weeks after the first. I think I found a good deal, but it seems too good. It's a silver 2002 Z28 automatic t-top with 147,000 miles for $3,850

Do you have a link to the ad? It all depends where you live really. If there are a lot of f bodies around your area, the price will be lower. Up where I am, there aren't many and the prices show for it.

There's not really a lot cause all the soldiers bought the 5th gen when they came out so that's really all there is on the lots. Or s197 mustangs and shelbys. Occasionally a terminator cobra or 4th gen ls1 comes along, but not as many as like a year or two ago when tons of soldiers had them

That one isn't a T-Top, you can see in the pics it has a hardtop. that might be a fair price for an automatic, high mileage LS1. usually automatics will sell for a couple thousand less, and I haven't seen any for sale around me that have as many miles as that.

I didn't catch that. Thanks for catching that for me. Nada says $8,025 so I'm worried a little. I'll probably call the dealer after school and see if I can get a carfax and more pictures of it and then go with a mechanic to look at it during the weekend

$8k?! Wow, i wouldn't have ever thought it would be that much to be honest. The more I look at the pictures, the more a couple things are jumping out at me. The hood isn't sitting right I think. It looks like there is a smaller gap between the hood and bumper on one side, than the other; just looks a bit off. The antenna also looks different. The power antenna was a fully retractable one (I have one on my T/A), the non power antenna was much taller than the pictured one. There is also one clouded headlight, and one that is ok. Maybe the car was damaged on that one side? Or they replaced a headlight because of damage? Don't know. I would definately see what you can find. I hope I am wrong on all this for your sake lol, because if I am, that might be a good deal.

Yeah it would be a really good deal. Sort of confirms my fear though, that it's so cheap cause it's been in an accident. Even if has maybe it was just body damage which would make it easier to swallow, but I'd prefer no accident history. Also looks like the driver side door is misaligned, I'm sensing t-bone

Edit: Think my fears have been confirmed, I went on kbb, cause nada does retail in good condition, and I typed in the info and it came up with $3,950 for fair condition private party which is what it's considered for a repaired wrecked car
