Default I know nothing about cars?

I have a 99 camero, and I've asked a few people this question without getting a good response. Anyway, when I am accelerating it feels, strange, it kind of lunges forward, (for lack of better description ), also when I turn it always makes a bad sound, even when I'm turning slow, and have nothing in the trunk area. If anyone can offer some help I would appreciate it.

Hi, I have a 98 LS1 V8 Z28 camaro. Does the noise your car makes a grinding sound? do you hear it when youre braking too? or just when you are turning? like iron rubbing iron? Can you discribe the sound a little better? My husband works on cars, race cars and daily drivers... He is a NHRA/IHRA DRAG RACER. I will ask him what makes the car thrust forward when accel. Is your car automatic? get back to me and I will find out what I can, but need to know more of what sound you are hearing. (if you havent gotten your car checked out yet.

Is it an automatic or straight drive? This makes all the difference in the world in answering your question. Also it would help to know V6 or V8, mileage total? Do you put any additives in it such as fuel injector cleaner or gas additive?

I have an automatic, and the best way I can describe the sounds is to say that when I turn it sounds like I have a tire or something rolling around back there, although the trunk space is empty. The turning on my car doesn't seem to be very smooth, it feels tight and stiff, I can't take turns very fast. I did get new tires but it didn't seem to help all much. I just replaced the battery so I haven't felt the lunging since. I'm not sure if thats a coincidence? Thanks for your, help!

I suggest that you first check your power steeering fluid, if it is low it may be the cause of hard steering. Also do you still have the stock wheels and tires, or have they been changed to something that may cauase interference between the tires and bodywork. Otherwise you may want to bite the bullet and take it to a reputable shop, and have you drive the car with the mechanic on board so that you can show the mechanic what is going on.

Has the car ever been in a wreck (check the axles)? Take the car to a parking lot with a friend and slowly drive in a cricle while your friend checks out the tires to see if they are rubbing the fenders or your car's body (or Frame) at all.

Maybe it was ignition?? Try changing spark plugs and spark plug wires....

After reading your complaint again, you may have suspension problems, in which case you will need the services of a suspension shop. Ask around for a good shop that specializes in suspension work and have them look at the car & see what they have to say. I am surprised that nothing was mentioned to you when you got the new tires. In any event, it is going to cost you money, and the cost depends on the problem. It is difficult to diagnose this from a distance; someone has to under the car and take a serious look.

You mentioned that you can't take turns very fast. The Camaro steering is a little stiffer than most cars, but if everything is up to snuff, it can corner with the best of them.

Another suggestion. If the car has a limited slip rear, and if the lubricant was changed without adding the special additive prescribed by GM, yuu can get some nasty clanking sounds out of the rear end as the differential suddently snaps in and out of lockup instead of having a smooth transition. The stuff is available from GM dealers for about $10 and it is worth a try before going to a shop.
