I guess I'll name my car Christine
99 Camaro SS had been running fine. The 7 year old battery finally died. I just put in a fresh battery and when I was hooking up the battery the car started on it's own. No key in the ignition. I couldn't turn the motor off. I disconnected the battery and removed it from the car. No help, the motor continued to run without the battery. I finally stuffed rags in the exhaust to kill the engine. Maybe the new battery is possessed.
Since the car was running fine before the battery change, anyone have any idea why it starts without a key in the ignition and will not shut off?

Thanks Craby. I had already come to the conclusion that it was the auto start. It's part of an aftermarket security system that was already installed when I bought the car 20 years ago. Now if only I can figure out how to disconnect it.
Yes, the first thing I tried was to put the key in the ignition and try to turn it off.
Thanks.

if the battery was completely dead, I mean 0 volts then everything most likely went to factory settings. I know the body control module can do some strange stuff but never heard of it doing this and it should only effect a factory theft control unit.
