It's only allowed to have ( Stock Bore and stroke / compression / no head porting / stock lift camshaft / all internal parts stock ) You can run any torque converter, any rear gear ratio, limited to a 9.00" ( on the ground ) x 30.00" racing slick, transmission must be OEM for car, Car must weigh OEM shipping weight + 170 Lbs with driver, All body panels and interior must be OEM. This has to be a completely stock bodied car. You can use aftermarket wheels and narrow front tires. Tou can run any open header exhaust. NHRA rules are very strict. If You cannot submit to a complete Teardown ( anything the tech official wants to do ) You will not be awarded the record. I was heavily involved with a 1966 Ford Fairlane 427-410 HP automatic that held the A/SA ( A Stock Automatic ) record back in 1990 @ 10.47 and 125 MPH. These records come very hard and the guys involved are the most dedicated racers I've ever been involved with. You pull every trick out of the hat that You ever dreamed of and then find more ways to go faster.

So what are the tricks??? Ive heard running so little oil that they are near out of oil pressure at the end, inverse radius camshafts that may be stock lift but are so aggressive in profile they throw the lifter off the cam for more lift, epoxying the intakes to change the characteristics these are only what I heard and may be BS . Uncle Bill enquiring minds want to know..... how do they get the power??

By reducing friction at every concevable level. Cylinder walls are mirror finish, clearances are loose, lo tension piston rings, literally hundreds of different cylinder heads are flow tested for the best heads, many cams that are dyno tested, bizarre angles on valve jobs, etc. Many, many hours of hand fitting everything. 5000 rpm stall converters, low drag coated transmission gears, The time and money spent is crazy. They even put helium in Their tires. The record for an '87 305 Camaro in F/FIA is an 11.59 @ 112.78 mph, to give You an example. The simple fact is that these are full weight cars running incredible numbers on 9 inch slicks. No matter how You cut it, They are very impressive.
