Default my exhaust is too loud. will a turn down do anthing?

i have a thrush welded 2 chamber single out muffler with a foot of 2 1/2 pointingto the side of the car. im wondering how to make it qiueter, it sounds ok but its too loud. if i point the exhaust down with a cheapo turndown will it do much? and what do those exhaust tips really do that say they are resonated like this kind
http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-PM551-St.../dp/B0002MB48S

theres stuff packed inside it, but it doesnt look like it would do anything

Yes, resonated tips will quiet it down some. I don't know how well that brand works, as I've used different ones before.

Turn downs will only reflect the noise back up at you. The resonator tips won't quiet it much since your exhaust is so short.

?Why would you want a quiet exhaust in the first place? I mean, I like people to hear me coming before I get there if I decide to give a good floor slam and the pedal just so happens to get in the way....

its extremely loud. louder than my old mustang with headers , offraod h pipe and 40 series flows dumped, which was pretty loud too but not close to how loud this is..

anyways i just added a 90 degree bend so now its alot quieter. im not going to keep this set up, maybe a dual outlet flow . its just my factory one was all messed up. i hate the sound of v8 single exhaust, why why gm!true dual exhaust sounds so much better. and i geuss it kinda depends on the firing order too as far as how it sounds
