microkid is right it would sound awesome straight piped...but make sure you adjust your carb afterwards so you dont lose any power...i think im gonna go straight pipes after i get some other things done

 

82, this is what I put on my 91 with a 305. Is yours a 305 or 350. The exhaust sounded awesome btw. Had a nice growl when the right foot went down, but was fairly quiet when cruising down the highway.

 

Nice exhaust...i think im just gonna take the cat and muffler off and replace it with pipes...and mine is a 305 bored out with 7k miles on it

 

took the muffler off my borla catback and replace it with a pipe a couple months ago and I love the deep sound, kinda sounds like a mild cam w/the y pipe. Just fyi though I wouldn't recommend taking the cats off if you use the car daily. The smell can get real irritating fast and it will sound super raspy. also if you decide on just running a straight pipe I would get a dyno tune. You would also have to tune out ses lights that will come up.

What smell, and yes it would get raspier without the cat.
You won't need a dyno tune.
And no SES lights are going to go on.
These OBD1 cars don't have a sophisticated engine management system like OBDII cars do.

 

Just my 10 cents worth here so take it for what it is. Take the cat off but dont do the straight pipe . I had a 86 TA that was done to with a flowmaster. It did not sound anything like a flowmaster equipped V8 Fbody should. The path I took and it did sound rather good was removed the straight pipe replaced it with a glass pack. The Trans Am sounded just as it should . It was cheap , eliminated the rasp, and gave the desired result.

 

I never did have a cat on it when i bought it...anyway i just got a cutout installed right where the cat would have been and the sound is amazing...i am really suprised. its louder than loud sounds really mean and its not very raspy...it couldnt be any better
