Default Cat-front Instead of Cat-Back

New here...due to me falling in love with my girlfriends 97 lt1. Have a couple Questions. All stock except i just Put a k&n intake on and now looking to do exhaust. Cat back systems never really made sense to me because it doesnt change anything upfront. I can only really afford 1 thing at a time so My question is... would it be worth it to get some long tube headers but leave the stock exhaust on? Also, does an off road y pipe totaly eliminate the cats? If so are they void of any emission control sensor mounts? And lastly do exhaust cut offs add performance or just sound? Thanks for any and all help! Till then ill be locating source of my P0400 egr malfunction...hopefully just a clogged line.

Default Cat front Instead of Cat Back

Nate from the header it should be CAT w/long pipe to "S" pipe to muffler.Even the Brullen exhaust I have, I had to bend the muffler hangers to get the tips parallel to the bumper.

Yes, no cats with an ORY. That's why it's "off-road". You can also get a regular Y to use with cats (and if u need emission tests). Cut-outs = performance + sound.
