slap shifter
im looking at a 3rd gen with a b & mslap shifter, just wondering if anyone has one or knows anything about them, how it works or how to drive it atleast, and is it gonna be a problem for a street car because i have no knowledge of them what so ever? thanks for any help
Well I don't know what you mean by slap shifter. Can you post a link to it? If it is the mega shifter for the 3rd gen f bodies its junk. I had one in my 84. It suposed to fit under the console which it does but it will only ratchet (no direct shift from 4 to 1. it needs to click through one at a time) and when you click it into d and down it will hit the console and push the top of it out. And it has too much of a mechanism that does not make it work smoothly.

Hurst also has one I would try. I have a universal one in my mom's 84 S10 and it has the ratcheting action and less complicated unit and works much better.

yeah, that one in the link is exactly what it looks like, but in the message it says slap shifter, so i didnt know if it was for look or for performance or somethin like in drag racing, but heres the link for the car. http://raleigh.craigslist.org/car/379217642.html
Well if people actualy knew what they had and knew what it was called instead of making up goofy names lifemight be a little easier. You slap your *****, not your shifter.
It is nothing special. That one only ratchets in the drive gears. You can click it down from D to 3 and it will return into its same position. It only ratchets because the throw is to long and it would not clear the console. The universal model of that shifter can ratchet or shift like a normal floor shifter.
