side vents on a 79

Im restorin a 79 Z28 and i was wondering if the vents on the front fenders did anything or if they were just for looks. and if they do do anything can u open and close them.[&:]

Those vents are open so I guess you could say they'er functional but they really don't have a function.

As it was said above, they dont have a specific function, but heat does escape from the engine compartment.

it could help cool the brakes if you do some mods.

mess around and see what you can make it do.

They are not very functional due to no direct air support to the engine compartment. If you could cut the fender and modify the wheel wells, you could make it a lot more effective. As far as me, I'm just putting it in and hammering the wheel well down notcing it and running tubing into the engine compartment. I'm also going to buy a fiberglass hood that has heat extractors. You can also modify the wheel wells at the bottom to become brake coolers.
