power steering cooler

RE: power steering cooler
The reason I beleive it is factory is that the car had one owner before me and they was elderly. I have searched on yahoo and found that the 02 5.7L did have a factory power steering cooler. This is the only thing I can figure it is with the power steering fluid running through it.

Hmm well maybe it did. But a note about the elderly. They are always sticking some wierd **** on their cars.
Maybe you can still just delete that part. Hook the two power steering lines together and replace the radiator hose. At least it could work until you get that part fixed.

Ok found something almost identical to this one on e-bay. Maybe it is an aftermarket part. After I hook the line back up normal how can I get the radiator cleaned out. I have flushed and flushed the radiator but its not coming out to easily.

I think to flush it out you will just have to run some of the cooling system flush though it. Maybe after a good flushing with a water hose. There may be some residule but it should not hurt anything.

Another thought. Since it is power steering fluid getting in your coolant just leave that tube in the radiator hose and pull off the power steering lines. Hook them together and cap off the ends on that tube.

RE: power steering cooler
As an option that might be why I never saw one before on any of the late models I worked on.But you might want to spend another $1 and get some rubber caps for the Steering cooler ends on that part. If power steering fluid got into the coolant the coolant could get into the tube inside and leak from the opening. I would think rubber caps should be good enough as it may be a very small leak and there wont be a lot of pressure from coolant wanting to come out.
