Default New Fuel Pump

I recently bought a 94 z28 and it needs a fuel pump and sending unit. I was wondering if anyone has replace their own and if so is it a hard task what needs to happen to get the gas tank out?

If you have a good workspace or shop and your pretty strong I would go for it but it is a pian in the rear to get the nuts/bolts loose on the gas tank. You should be able to find someone to do it around $300 if not they jipped ya some mechanics want $1000!

Sorry I dont have a answer for your question, but I do have a question for you. How do you know you need a fuel pump? what has your car been doing to show thats what it needs? because I was recently told that might be my problem but I am not sure if it is worth the money to replace a fuel pump if I am not sure if thats what I need

unless the 98s were the only odd-*****, I think pre99 cars have metal gas tanks (at least the 98s do) which means u need to drop the tank to get to it. later models can be reached by cutting into the hump behind the rear seats and getting in that way.

To get the tank out you need to drop the rear axle. Di connects the shocks so that the axle drops down as you raise the body, disconnect the exhaust pipe so you can move it out of the way, disconnect all plumbing, place jack under tank, disconnect all plumbing, and lower tank. Make sure the tank is empty, or almost empty, as it difficult to handle it with gas sloshing around. Also, please do not smoke while doing this. A repair manual would be helpful, considering this is your first time.

i actually just changed mine five days ago. basicly you could do what Pete said but i have a 95' and all i did was raise her up high. like if u had a lift that would be great but if you like me a cant afford that stuff you need to jack her up about 3.5 feet to mess with it. take muffler off. i dident take my axle out but it took me a good hour with the tank dissconcted to get it out from under the car to even get to the pump. then take the two bars off of the axle. ones bloted to the frame railing. and then comes the fun part. make sure your negtive bettery cable is dissconected then all the lines an plugs off the tank and go at it. i hope you have more fun than i did.
