How did it work before it went into paint/storage? I would first look at the fuel, if it sat for a while the fuel could be bad. Maybe a quick tune up (timing test) might be in order.

Even good fuel can go bad after two years.
Could be a vacume leak.

no i put new gas in when i took it out and it ran out when i took it out. but yes i agree on the vaccuum leak because i know that the to vaccuum seals on the front of the carb were dry-rotted right out but do you think that that would be enough to cause that. and i think that it ran just the same with the old carb on it. and i thought the carb was causing this so i bought a new one.

Maybe the ignition is retarded a touch where it runs like it has no pep.
Chase your tail if you do not find that compression across the board. Besides, did you prep the valves that were open for 2 years? Rust on the seat and face of the valve?

Check compression.

I agree, check compression. If the fuel is good I suggest doing dome tests. Compression test will tell you alot, as will a vacume test (using ether or starting fluid) I didnt even think of the valves, good call pazz.
