Default MARO OVERHEATED.

ok. so bad thanksgiving so far. and my car contributed to that this morning. ok so my brother drove my car to my house from his house which was about 50 miles. and about a mile from my house it overheats. it wouldnt start, the gaugesjuss went all crazy when i tried.so i had it towed the rest of the way. it wouldnt even give an attempt to start. so i wait a few hours and it starts fine. wasnt hot or anything, i just think it might do it again though. im adding coolant. but if it occurs again, do you guys think its my thermostat? thats what my brother suggested. i just want a second opinion. thanks in advance

Your gauges just went crazy while the key was in the crank position? They jumped to like high oil pressure and volts and temp...? Have you checked your coolant level before it over heated? What kind of driving? In town stop and go where it would use the electric fan or highway were the fan may not kick on? See anything leaking? Or do you think it just built up a lot of pressure and pushed it all out the expansion tank.

So you're saying that you turned the key, but the starter didn't crank?

Here is something I once heard, but I don't know exactly how true it is: there may not be a heat shield over the starter causing it to get way to hot to the point where it seizes up from over expansion. When it cools back down, the starter contracts and goes back to normal so it can crank. This may only happen when the car overheats so you probably won't have to worry about it but it wouldn't hurt to get a heat shield.

Once again, I have no clue how true this is, but I've heard people say that it's possible before.
