I have '96 z28. I purchased this past march. I had to replace the distributor, cap and rotor in July. 3 or 4 months later the coil went bad. It ran fine for a while. Now when the engine gets warm it dies out when sitting. While driving the engine bogs and the tachometer stops working. I replaced the control module and the crank sensor. That didn't help. Any suggestions?

 

Is the check engine lite on?

 

Yes. and now it won't start at all.

 

Get the computer scanned & see what it is complaining about.

I thought the opti spark was part of the distributor. I assumed that was replaced with the distributor, cap and rotor. Am I wrong?

 

no youre correct, but it still could be the problem if itdies after it gets warm but it could be other things, you have to get it scanned and that would point us in the right direction

 

My mechanic has had my car for a f--ing week. I called him today and they think it is the ecm. How hard is it to change it out? I need to do it myself because I've already spent to much money on this car.

 

its pretty simple, they run for about 100 bucks

 

Is there any programming involved? or is it just plug in and go?
