Fuel pump troubleshooting/Can't figure out what's wrong
Hey guys, I'm having a little trouble with my camaro. It's a 99.
I've been having troubles with my fuel pump for a month. The car wouldn't start on the first turn and then the pump would start and only when it did the car would.
Now the fuel pump totally stopped working (making that humming/buzzing noise in the background) so I put the car in the garage, stripped the back and used the trap door method to access the fuel pump.
When I took the fuel pump out of the assembly and used the direct power feed to it and it runs. So obviously my fuel pump is not getting any power. I checked the fuses and the relays and they are good. I'm seriously running out of ideas.
Any help would be appreciated.

When you say ot runs are you means its spinning? That does not mean your getting any real fuel pressure out of it. There are a lot of things that can fail in a fuel pump some of them would allow the pump to run without making pressure. Also the banging around while taking it out might make it work for another day or two. You probably could have hit the gas tank with a mallet and got the same effect.
That combind with the no start before that I would say your fuel pump is bad. About 3 weeks ago my car started the no start every 5th try or so maybe every 3rd day. Since most of the parts up front are new and I knew it was "no fuel pressure" cause i check while it was in No start mode. I just swapped out the pump before it failed completely. I guessed right. It has run great ever since.

Thank you. I bought a new fuel pump and it should be here in a couple of days. I'll install it and post the results, hopefully that is it.
I was confused because I assumed the old fuel pump completely crapped out when I get a no start. But when I took it out and directly attached it to a battery it buzzed and worked. I assumed that the fuel pump was not getting power from the battery inside the car somehow, like through the antitheft or something.
I'll put the new fuel pump and supply and I'll see what happens.
Previously it would take me 3-4 tries to turn the car on but it would. And when it did I would hear the buzzing of the fuel pump in the background. Now it stopped doing that and won't start.

Since hot-wiring the pump while it was out made it run, maybe you should have tried hot-wiring it while it's in place to see if the engine will run.
You could have a wiring or computer issue, and it might not be the pump at all.
