from fuel injunk to carb
the over all problem is i have an 82 that had the crossfire 350 in it and i found a 383 for a steal (250 bucks fresh out the machine shop) i wasn't about to put the crossfire on this engine. the problem is im having electric issues with the fuel system when i first put the motor in it would run for about 10 mins then die now it would even pump the gas. I have a brand new fuel pump and filter the tank and lines were just cleaned now im kinda stuck. i have a 9psi electric fuel pump so no need for a regulator i think. i used to here it prime when i turned the key to the on position but it doesnt do that any more either. it's been about 2 years since i driven my car and im getting the itch. any advice.

fuel injection is a lot better than carb, you will get better fuel economy, i would get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, you should fix your electrical issues before you do anything

i guess i should refraze my question. i'm not gonna put the money into getting a LT1 or aLS1system and a tbi is totally out of the question this is my third camaro and they all have ended up being carberated in the end because i hate working on fuel injection the carb is so much easier im just wondering if there is somthing i missed in the electrical system to get this thing running.

[&:] did you retain the stock electric fuel pump?? 9 psi is gonna be too much for a carb and a regulator will be needed. the stock fuel pump is cycled by the stock dist signal if youve gone to a aftermarket carb / dist combo based on your description id have to say your keyed startup may be cycling the pump once but then it dousnt see a signal to continue cycling?? might need a little more info on how exactly you have things plumbed and wired kurt

today im going through the wiring im removing the old harness and starting from scratch i guess it in a way will be the simplest way and i have a 1-5.5 psi regulator now. i ran the pump off a hot wire just to fire up the car to test it. on the max setting of 5.5 psi it seems the motor is a little lean but i havent had it running long enough to tune the carb yet. so far i got the fuel injection wiring all seperated and now im not sure if i want to pull it all and rewire everything its big pain in the butt.

RE: from fuel injunk to carb
[&:] i think if you check the specs for whatever carb u have the desired fuel pressure will most likely be in the 3-5 psi range. if your lean its a carb problem (really common to over carb as most backyard racers seem the think bigger is better) if you truly have a 383 and its not too wild a 750 cfm would be a perfect match for a carb. as for the wiring you should be able to use most of what is already in place youll just have to figure out how you need to use the different circuits in the back to basics application. kurt
