i have used a magnet mount oil heater on two vehicles, and i dont think it made any difference at all. my brothers c10 came from colorado and had a recirculating coolant heater on the heater lines. i think that would be the best to install as it moves the coolant around and will warm up the cab slightly from the heat in the heater core.

guess where I am going is take stock of your actual needs and see what will do the job without going overboard. Only you can make the final call as to what is really required of the vehicle you need.

I used the simple coolant heater on a Chevy truck I had when I lived in cold country and it worked great.
Very simple, cut a heater hose and install in line on the hose.
Leave the heater in the heat and defrost position and it even keeps ice off the windshield, easy start and heat almost right off the get go.

I will add in the deep North most of the car have the Heater/coolant pump system. THey leave them installed all the time. They find all those other things a joke. Most hotels used to have plug in the parking lots so you could plug your car in over night. I have never lived in upstate NY but I have traveled thru. I used the dip stick style. It works fine for a few days here and there. The old style light blub will work just skip the blanket unless its a welding blanket LOL.

Hi,
I used to live in Fairbanks alaska and pretty much everyone up there uses those magnet heaters - they do work at -40, Cammy would fire up even at that temp, -60 though is a different story... Theres one in her engine block, one on her oil pan, and one under her battery that are connected together and the power cable comes out one of her fog light holes.

Keep the gas tank full to keep water out, and a bottle of Heet(like 2$) will help, I notice cammy doesn't take as long to turn over in the cold with that stuff in her. Make sure your using that the right oil too - like that 5W instead of 10W.

Had a inline heater on my Z28, about the size of a beer can, worked very well. Preheating the water made the car heat up much faster too. Didn't like the plug sticking out of the grille.
