Default Engine Balancing

I have a 93 Camaro Z28 with a 383 stroker LT1 engine. I have only put a little over 2,000 miles on it and it does not feel right. The hood shakes and I was told that something is wrong with the balancing. I have a mechanic who is telling me that he can balance the crank while it is still in the car by placing something on the flywheel or by placing a small weight on the balancer. Has anyone ever heard anything like this before? I have not. When I had the engine redone it was balanced but something happened and now it is not. I would appreciate any help in this that I could get from this forum. THanks....

Your LT1 383 works just the opposite of my Gen 1 383 based engine.
In stock form, the LT1 is externally balanced with a counterweightedflywheel/flexplate.Your 383 set-up is internally balanced, which means you need to use a zero-balanced flywheel. If you just slapped the stock LT1 flywheel on the crank, then that's the source of your vibe. You can either get the correct flywheel, or have yours balanced.

One other question, will this hurt the engine with the small amount of mile that have been put on it? I have gotten maybe 200 miles since the vibration started during the diagnosis stage.
