Edelbrock Proflo air cleaner question
A neighbor gave me an Edelbrock Proflo air filter assy. It needed a new foam element so I picked one up from Napa. My question is do these foam elements need to be oiled? The box didn't state to pre-oil it, just to wash it in soap and water. So does it go on dry? If it does need oiling what do I use? thanks

You need to be more specific. Edelbrock makes a Pro-Flo filter for carburetors, TBI, and EFI. Are you talking about the "K&N" style for FI? Or the triangular foam style for a carb?

No, those don't get oiled. And take a close look at the foam element. It's pretty good at keeping bugs and other big chunks out of the carb, but not so good with fine dirt as even a paper filter will.
And you don't want to use those with a fiberglass hood. Since those are an open filter, one good backfire could turn your hood, and rest of the car, into a crispy marshmallow.
