Distributor Locking
RatMotor the adv duration at .50 is 256int/264ex, lobe angle 108, 627lift int/ex with 1.5 roller rockers. The gear and chain have about ten runs on them and have a cam button and block protector bearing. The pertronix race distributor is out of the box and there in I believe is the issue that I'm posting about. Why do I care how it idles? At Atco Raceway on High School Night the lines are horrendous and trying to move and stay with a car constantly stalling is a real pain in the drain. It does seem the more advance the engine has the better it runs. I just need a combo of some kind of idle ability, but I can still launch close to the 3000 mark and be in the advance.
I got back from my class at OTC last week and played with the distributor and found that if I put in the lightest springs and raised my timing so that it would idle at around 900 in gear that the timing was pretty stable. But difficult to start, so I bought an MSD digital 6 and hooked it up for a 20degree retard at start up, Problems solved. Took the car to the track just this Thursday night for street night and the best time was a 12.613 at 110.09, somewhat disappointing. Next I am going to try locking the mechanical advance with the retard and see if it makes any difference in performance.
