I haven't had my Z28 for very long (1995, LT1, stock). I've goosed it some and have gotten the feel of it, but something gave me a scary surprise today. My mom wanted to go for a ride in it. I drove it around for about 10 or so minutes to let it warm up, then was going to goose it a little. I turned onto a smooth road and started going up a slight hill. I didn't spin the tires but gradually gave it just about full throttle. The road curved just a tad bit. Around this time, it was at pretty high RPM and suddenly shifted into 2nd (automatic). When it did, it jerked into it (partly because it was on an incline I guess) and the wheels spun slightly. Well, it started doing some of the those quick jerky little fishtails (not actually fish tails, but a slight loss of traction, then a regain of traction with a slight osillation right after). There was a car coming in the other lane. I let off the gas and it quickly regained traction and never actually left my lane, but CRAP. It really scared the **** out of me. Plus, my FREAKING mom was with me!!! I'M A HORSE'S PATOOT. Just when you think you know, something slaps you in the face and tells you you don't.

I'm happy I'm alive and everything, but DAMN I wish my mom hadn't been with me. If you want to reply and tell me I'm an idiot, I think you'd be well within reason.

Chalk that up to learning how to drive high power cars. You got to learn when to get off the pedal. Good thing the road was dry, otherwise you would have gotten a lesson on doing 180s. You have to be especially careful with positraction. Positraction is not traction control, it just ties both rear wheels toghether and they both loose traction at the same time. When this happens the back of the car goes wherever it likes and you need to react very quickly to avoid a spinout.

My mom'sbeen a pretty tough parent my whole life (I'm 22 now). I think she feels like she's taught me about everything she can now. She knows I feel like a moron. She also knows that I realize how much worse it could have been. But I feel bad that I had to learnone of my stupid life's lessons and put her in danger while doing it.

I love this car - I can't believe how all the guys down here in Louisiana are SO obsessed with trucks. I don't know if it's like this in other parts of the country. Some of them are rednecks who need them for their construction jobs or four wheelers. But a lot of them just think trucks are cool and put good engines in them and get big 22 inch rims. But I can't believe that some parents buy their kids z28s and GTs for their high school commuter cars. I've realized now that you can get into big trouble quick with one of these things - and I'm a mild, dorky, college student. I think it's weird, though, that it's mostly girls I see who have camaros and mustangs and the guys just get stupid trucks. Maybe the guys have already wrecked their camaros and mustangs and now they have trucks.
