so my son tells me the Camaro won't shut off today

it appears that the ignition is loosey goosey or popped out a little
here is a picture I took


and the only way I got it to shut off was by pushing the key in hard and turning it. I am sure the ignition switch won't last for long.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I had a loose ignition on an old Silverado once, but it was partly my fault because I worked in maintenance and had a bazillion keys on the ring. Who would've thought that weighted keys could ruin an ignition after a while?

Unfortunately I'd have a mechanic look at that or have it replaced altogether.

 

Change out the switch. lol

 

Yeah, the tumbler assembly is likely jamming up. Had that happen before.

 

Yeah the only thing to do is get it changed out

 

91 camaro? Id go to the local junkyard and grab a key. without the chip... Why not?

 

I think you have to replace it as soon as possible.

 

Thought most people knew that weighted down key rings on a GM cylinder would def wear it out.
