Can I have some opinions on a Trans AM
Hey everyone.... I have a car I'm looking at.
Its a 2001 Pontiac Trans AM
Flat Black
Auto Tranny
The guy that is selling it bought it from a guy that says he rebuilt the motor with a forged bottom end and heads, and intake manifold and a cam
It also has a built tranny.
It has 10k on the motor and about 98 k on the body.
I was wondering...if there a way I can tell if the car DOES have a forged bottom end and after market heads and intake ?
you can tell it has a came by the idle.
I like the car and would like to have it.
They are asking 6300 for it.
Any opinions ?
Thanks everyone.

Supporting paperwork, or the engines exact ingredients are just a "story".
Only other way to know and prove what you have, is to open the engine up and look for manufacturer markings/numbers on the parts.

Thanks for the responses everyone.
There are no receipts or blue prints or anything.
Just the owner telling me what the guy before him did to the motor.
Is there anyway to look on the heads or intake manifold without taking them off to verify that they are aftermarket ?
The car seems to have power.... we went for a ride...and he moved the tranny into 1st gear from a dead stop and the car has 335 slicks on it and it just sat there an spun the wheels....So it seems to have some power.
It also has 4:56 gears in the back.
There starts really well. and it runs great. It doesn't stall when your sitting at a stop sign idling, or anything like that.
It seems like a solid car.
All of the interior like the carpet and stuff has been removed....But all of the carpet is included...I just have to reinstall it.

Personally, I would not buy someone's used race car that had the snot beat out of it for ten thousand miles. You have no way of knowing that bottom end was rebuilt, let alone replaced. Primer black? Not a good sign either. I would pass on it and buy a car as close to stock as possible and do your own changes.
