Default A/C vibration

I have a 97' Camaro with the 3.8L engine. When I'm idling I get a loud vibration coming from my A/C. It's vibrating pretty good, you can really feel it in the shifter. If I push the RPM's up to about 1000 it sounds normal. If I turn the A/C off, there's no vibration during idle.

Do you guys think this is a problem with the compressor or just the a/c clutch and/or clutch bearing?

Most likely the compressor is ready to give up. But first I have some questons. Does the idle speed droop when the compressor kicks in? Have you checked to see that all brackets, adjusters, etc.. that hold the compressor and alternator in place are good and tight. Have you checked the refrigerant pressure? Too much refrigerant will make the compressor labor. Is the fan kicking in with the AC? If not system pressure skyrockets & works the hell out of the compressor. Check the compressor clutch, look at it as it engages and see if it is slipping.
