Battery? Starter? Please give me your 2cts...
I have a 2001 camaro RS and very recently it started giving me hard time when I start it. Initially I had left it 5 days without using it and when I went to start it again, it first made a grinding sound then clicked and then nothing. When trying again, it did the same for a few more times, then, the grinding and sort of normal iginition sound vanished.
I guess you guys would say its the battery that need replacment, but what weird is that if I try several more times with insistance, it finally starts OK. And thats only when the car is COLD. Once it gets rolling, I can stop even for a whole day at work and its still OK afterwards. Im really puzzled, someone suggested it might be the starter otherwise, but Im really not sure. It does alos seem like if I leave the radio on/put on the parking lights without the engine running, then its gonna take me up to 8-9 attempts to finally get the motor going.
I dont know if that relevent or not, but the selection on my radio are lost everytime I have troubles starting it.
Please let me know what you would do? Change/control the battery?
Thanks loads, MJ

yeah the grinding could be the starter.i had a saturn once and one of the bolts holding the starter in place broke off so it would make a grinding noise against the flywheel. The teeth on your flywheel could be bad or the starter gear isnt connected correctly with your flywheel. You could have a short somewhere causing you to lose power in your battery or you might have a bad ground.
I would say battery. Get it tested, if its good then you have a bad connection somewhere, like Ali said. If it werent the battery the selection on your radio would still be there....
