Default starter/battery connection maybe?

I have a 95 Camaro 3.4 auto with 212,000 miles on body not sure on motor or trans. I have only had the car for a couple weeks and when I got it, it started just fine with no problems... one day earlier this week I went to start it and it turns over and starts but while it turns over it clicks like the battery connections are bad. I recently have bought a new battery cause my old one was no longer good and still same thing... I don't know what to do. I cleaned my terminals and battery connectors. any advise would be great...thanks

Make sure the battery is fully charged, even though the battery is new it does not mean it is fully charged. The clattering you hear is probably due to the starter solenoid being sick or some other condition preventing it from getting full power. Besides the battery not being full, the problem could be due to battery cables being corroded, especially where the cable connects to the inside of the terminal, poor ground connection,a bad starter and or solenoid, a mechanical problem with the engine which causes it to bind. I suggest you get a cheap clamp on ammeter that fits around the battery cable. When the starter is engaged it should show a draw of around 200 Amp. Much above that the starter is working too hard, much below that, the starter is not working hard enough, possibly due to a bad starter or a high resistance from the battery to the starter, and/or from the battery to ground, or the starter is not bolted in solid. Also, the chattering could be due to damaged teeth on the starter pinion or the flywheel. Good luck.
