Default LS1 battery to starter wiring question

So I'm getting everything down to the end on my swap. Wiring up the starter I'm noticing a lot more wires than I'm used to with the old school SBC's.

I have three wires coming from the positive battery terminal, two red, one black. One red runs to the junction box on the river side. One red runs to the starter even though the Chilton manual says it runs to the alternator and the black runs to the starter. The red one that runs down to the starter even has the little tab on the eyelet for it to lock onto the starter. Even the picture in the starter replacement section shows a red wire with the tab just like mine.

On mine, I have two wires that dump right beside the starter. One red, one black. I assume that the red goes to the starter and the black to either the body or the block? It comes from the positive battery terminal though? Then the black has two wires that come off the negative and I assume to go to the body/block. One is connected to the passenger side fender well.

Can anyone help me clarify where the three positive wires go for sure?

Nevermind, got it wired. Now my starter is bad. It will spin, but won't extend the bendix to engage the flexplate.
