Arg! I almost forgot! We did a flow test on the water pump to make sure it was good prior to installing the new pump and I pulled the thermostat out and we ran the car with out it and the car ran cool and didn't heat up at all. Before the car would overheat in a matter of 5-10 minutes but without the thermostat the car didn't heat up at all. We took the car for a test drive and then we noticed the temp guage go up but that could have been from the fact that the thermostat was removed and the water didn't stay in the radiator long enough to cool down. It took a 45-50 minutes before that happened. Bad radiator maybe?

 

My mechanic says radiator is fine. If it is my heads, i'm gonna do it myself because my friends dad is a mechanic and he said he'll help me. thats cool with me because i wanna learn how to do it myself. do you guys have any suggestions? it'll be my first time working on something newer than my 68 chevy truck.i cant mess anything up as long as i bolt on the heads right and put everything back how it was, right?

 

Pete, do you think that driving my car hot could have hurt my cylinders or block at all? my temp meter never got into the red, but my mechanic said that the low rpm bogging could have ruined my engine. I wont know till i get the heads off, but do you think its very likely?

 

How about a block test? This is a test that you do while the car is running and and you open the radiator cap then you insert a test vile into the radiator with a blue solution that if exhaust is detected in the radiator the blue solution turns yellow. I did this test three times and each time it came out negative.

 

I'll try it and let you know what i get.
