Default Heading to the Track

I plan on heading to the track on August 5th for the first time ever...ha so Im a bit nervous. I will post my time slip and possibly pictures if I can get someone to take them. I just needed to know a few terms before I go. Happy Hour Im guessing is where you go and just run your car as many times as you like and then the time trials start after that? Also Im not to sure on the whole staging thing so if someone could explain that would be cool. AND for my last and FINAL question I will be in the Sportsman Class (8.00 and up) so is there anyway Im supposed to burn out? Im not to great on the whole burnout thing especially keeping it in one place. I hope I can bring back some pretty good time slips and I'll keep you posted and hopefully get some pictures of my Camaro on here. Thanks!!!

alot of tracks use different terms. where i drag they call happy hour Test and Tune. then they have reaction time challenge. then bracket racing. and they are all going on at the same time. you just use different lanes for staging. when staging the staging attendant will wave you up. you roll through the water then lockup your brakes and roast the hell out of them. unless you have street tires. street tires will get greasy the hotter they get so you don't want to get them as hot. once you have heated your tires you will ease up to the tree. notice the avatar i have. you can stage first or let the other guy stage. pre-staging is when you ease up and the first two top lights light up. you ease up a little more and then the second two lights will light up. at that point your are staged. when your opponent is fully staged the lower lights will start two light yellow ... yellow ... yellow ... then green. unless they are running the pro-tree and all yellow lights will come on then green. when you see the third yellow light come on nail it. by the time you get fully across the line the green light will have lit. notice my avatar demonstates the pro-tree. most likely you will run the standard tree. don't be upset if your times suck at first. it takes a few runs to get the feel of the track. good luck. sick

i haven't ran it since i installed the slicks and the dual 450 quad setup. with street tires and the single 600 CFM vacuum secondary it ran 14.24 @ 100 mph. hoping i'm gonna shave that down to the high 12's with the slicks. as much time as i lost spinning it should with no problem. i snuck it down the street yesterday and the dual quad mechanicals will give you whip lash LOL. i'm hoping the mechanical fuel pump is gonna supply enough fuel at WOT. if it doesn't rain i'm racing this weekend. sick

a trap speed like that should at least be good for mid 13s with good traction...how was your 60' time on the 14.24 run?

also, what carb were you running then?

2.20 @ 60' with the single 600. it would spin through the whole 60' even if i feathered the accelerator as soon as the secondarys would open it would start spinning. also would loose traction real bad when shifting. running the 600 i could never get the mixture leaned out right. the cam is so lopey it looses quite abit of vacuum at less than WOT. and i believe my power valve was opening alot prematurely. the 450's are holley quadrajet replacements and it "seems" to be adjusting better. will know for sure this weekend. where i live i put my pocketbook in jeopardy just making a loop around the block. so most of my tuning has to be done at the track. sick
