Default which tranny and gears

ok heres the deal, i have a 79 camaro with a 355 in it. i have a th350 tranny in it right now with 4.10 gears (might be 4.11 i forget) im looking to be able to do the speed limit on the highway without being way up in the rpms.
my first question is how much would 3.73's help on highway speeds? and would i notice a power loss?

my second question i was going to which the tranny to a 4 speed manual, but im second guessin myself now because people are telling me if i miss a gear then ill blow the motor. so i want to keep the power (to the wheels)i have now..if not more. so should keep the tranny i have and put like a 2500 stall on it. or even try to find like a 700r4 (if it will fit?) for the overdrive gear?

any help on anythin to do with this stuff would be nice. thanks

First of all, yes 3.73 gears will help you on the highway, you'll lose about 2 tenths of a second in the quarter mile. You won't be able to break the tires lose as easily either.

Http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com will be a good source for your 700R4 conversion. As long as you get an ignition box, you can swap it out to a manual and you won't blow your motor.

RPM with 3.73 gears.

3500 =X
4.11 3.73

(4.11) (X) = (3500) (3.73)

X = (3500) (3.73)
4.11

X= 3176 RPM @ 65-70 MPH

RPM drop compared to 4.11 gears = 324
