Default Radiator fan mystery.

Hello, to start my camaro is overheating at stop and low speeds, due to radiator fan malfunctioning. Recently ive replaced the thermostat, temp switch, and exchanged the coolant.
After replacing my a/c compressor and harmonic balancer(probly nothing to due with problem), the fan was not turning on at all, with defroster or a/c turned on did not help. I checked all fuses under hood and dash. So i replaced the fan relay, didnt do anything, so i jumped the the relay board and the fan kicked on.
So from here i have no idea what to do, i do not want to have the fan hard wired, so i want to diagnose the actual problem. If it helps, the geniuses at kragen gave me a generic 5pin relay, but the pins matched and the numbers matched so i assumed it would be an adequate replacement.
Is there supposed to be a specific fan relay or is a generic one fine?
Is it possible there is a different problem elsewhere, cuz i feel ive checked all the components involved with the functionality of the fan?

Thanks for any help.
Quinn

Right now the fan is hard wired to the ignition power on the relay board, to the power for the fan o the relay board, but again i dont want to go through fan motors and dont want my gas mileage to suffer.
