Default Question about new parts rusting...

Hello,

My question is about some new parts that I have bought at places like Autozone or Advanced. I have bought a water pump and a master cylinder. When I installed them, they immediately rusted. I was told that everything I buy must be painted to prevent rust from forming on the new parts and I have seen my first water pump rust. Why are parts made like this straight from the factory?

Should I paint my master cylinder from the inside as well? I don't want to get any paint into the system once I install it. What do you recommend?

They're bare metal, why wouldn't you expect them to rust? Paint the parts if you want a finish to last.
No, don't paint the inside of the master cylinder, that will end up contaminating the fluid and clogging up the lines.
The inside is sealed, coated with fluid, and isn't going to rust anyway.
