Im going to buy a 1973 Camaro. It currently has a slightly built 305 which im planning to swap into my boat. There is an LS1 that im looking into buying and swapping into the Camaro. The guy told me that it was a 1990 350 LS1 which came out of a police interceptor. It comes with the complete wiring harness, computer, radiator, cooler, 700 R4 tranny, basically everything.

I have been told that LS1's were introduced in 1997 which would make this not an LS1, Is this true? Is it not an LS1?

Also, what all would need to be done to do the swap? I was told that the computer would need retuned, it would need a new fuel pump, basically alot of stuff would needed to be done. Woule the 700 R4 fit or should i just put the Muncie 4speed which is already on the camaro onto the LS1?

I havnt been able to find any parts for a 1991 LS1 so if it isnt an LS1 then it would make alot of sense?


The guy will take $1400 for it, does that seem like a good deal?

that is NOT an LS1. Tell that guy he knows nothing about cars if he thinks that is a "1990 LS1'.

 

If it is a 1990, it is not an LS series engine at all. Maybe someone made a mistake but that is a big mistake to make. You were correct when you said that the LS1 did not hit the streets until the 97 model year. You can put an LS engine in that Camaro but expect to spend a bunch more money.
