How do i find out what engine i have?

Default How do i find out what engine i have?

I have a 1981 camaro its got a 305 according to the title but i think it has been changed a few people have been telling me 305/350 personally i think its a 305. Can anyone tell by these numbers on the motor? 18436572 If not where can i find numbers that could be useful? Thx for reading![:-]

Well, if no other way you can pull a head off and check the size of the cylinders. A 350 has a 4" bore, a 305 is noticeably smaller.

That number is the firing order off the manifold look on the rear passenger side part of the block where the trans bolts onto..... This is a link to the block casting numbers http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm

You found those numbers on the intake manifold, and they are your engines firing order.
Look on the block, drivers side near the bellhousing for the casting #. That will tell you what the engine might be. Near the casting #, or in the same place on the passenger side will be the date code. And the numbers stamped on a pad in front of the passenger side head will tell the rest.
