Default cant find engine code

Ive got a 454 and im trying to figure out what it came out of and what year, pretty much everywhere ive looked people have said to check on the front passenger side just in front of the valve cover and i have even seen pictures of where it should be but its not there. I believe i found the casting number on the back of the block passenger side (8 digits-10415445). i found the 7 digit number 1041544 as being a 1975-87 truck but nothing with the 8 digit. but still cant find the engine suffix code. any suggestions?

I don't have a clue. Is it important? I understand the want to find origonal hp rating and what not. Maybe even compression. If your gonna do anything to it those numbers go out the window. It may have been decked and thats why there isn't a stamp. If thats true you can really through the numbers out the window.

Sorry if I sound kind of grumpy. don't mean to. I just look at the casting numbers and know, if it a small block and it has 010. Its high nickle and thats all I need.

Big blocks can have numbers and codes stamped on a pad in the center of the block, above the timing chain cover. Look there.

well actually the only reason i 'needed' it (yes itd be nice to know about it, but whatever) is because it needs a new belt and im not sure what size, which got me wanting to get a manual for it which required me finding out exactly what it came out of so ill look above the timing chain cover but if it aint there then what other way can i get the right belt size without a handful of trouble?

Take the old one in and match it to a new one. That is if you still have the other one. If the belt broke and you don't have it, take a piece of electrical tape around the pulleys cut it and then measure the legnth. There can't be that many different belt set ups either.
