Help With Engine Compartment
Me and my dad use to work on this 305 v8 engine for my 86camaro project car...and he told me he would give it to me when we finished working on it...
i never really paid to much attention, i just liked to watch him work.
he recently passed away this month, and i get to keep the 86camaro...but..since i never paid much attention to what he was trying to teach me about the car..and the engine compartment..I'm pretty much lost on what everything is called and where everything goes..
the reason i am asking for help is because i really wanna finish restoring this car for my dad who loved it. i would like to put all new wiring into it and hoses, but...I'm afraid to take anything apart and not be able to put it back together because i do not know any of the names or parts inside the engine...and where the hoses connect to(I know I'm ashamed.). so ye, can anyone maybe post something that explains all the separate parts inside the engine compartment so i can become familiar with the engine more..? and tell me where to start when it comes to rewiring/replacing hosing..? i will be most grateful...
Heres some pictures...(never got to installing the A/C or the Heating)
Please someone knowlegable explain what i can do to make this more organized...and what seems wrong to you....if you need more pictures of specific stuff...i can get them.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss and I hope you well in the future. I know that it can truly suck to lose someone so close to you like that. If you lived closer I would offer to help whenever you needed it.
First, I would suggest going to a parts store and getting a Haynes/Chilton manual for your model year. It's not a master book but it will definantly help you in determining the basics and how to do maintenance. From there you can learn a lot more than you would expect.
Second, is there anything wrong with it that you're noticing? I wouldn't go about fixing things that aren't broke unless you're doing it to give it performance upgrades but a 305 isn't really a performance engine in the first place.
It's honorable to build the car in your Father's honor. I'm kinda doing something similar for a friend of my dad's that passed away and he owned a 72 Camaro that I used to go for rides in when I was a kid and I would wash it on weekends for him just because it was a cool car.
But seriously, get the basic manual and learn the basics. Anything you have questions about we'll be happy to help with on here.
