dropping the tranny

Default dropping the tranny

so i have a 95 3.4 firebird5 speedand im getting ready to drop the tranny i have to in order to fix some freeze plugs on the back of the engine anyone done it how hard is it?

Not hard if you done it before. Get yourself a good repair manual with step by step instructions, or someone to help you that has done it before. Also a transmission jack would help, especially when you go to put the transmission back.

ya i picked up a haynes repiar manual it has a step by step of what to do i havent done it before my freinds dad whose house im doing it at has on a older truck but not this car i dont have a tranny jack but ill see what i can do maybe borrow one i dunno but thanks

As mentioned above, not hard at all. Use a really long extension and flex-head socket to get to the upper bolts. Get the impact style extension so it wont flex like the regular ones do. Might bea good time to replace your torque arm bushing and trans mount to urethane style, also check for leaking seals.

so im droping the tranny i almost have it off and my freind said something about a splicer or something that i need whats that about i dont have one

not sure what a splicer is, is your friend referring to a trans part or a tool? I'm wondering if he's calling the clutch alignment tool a clutch spline tool? If so, then it's a plastic shaft that re-aligns your clutch upon installation.

so i rember its a spliner a caledva spliner but my manual and the other ppl i talked to said i didnt need one i could just line up the splines on it any imput

so i got the trans off and i think i found the leak its near the flywheel and i dont think its a freeze plug its a vertical hole so any idea what it might be its about finger width size
