Default oil pressure dropping

I just got around to doing the oil change on my camaro and its still losing oil pressure after the engine starts warming. it starts at 110psi and drops down to 90psi after the car starts hovering around 180 degrees and when I park it and let it idle it drops down to 60 psi. whats going on?

better hook a mechanical gauge to it and see if the readings are correct. what have you done so far?

if you mean as far as mods just a cai, plugs and wires. nothing that should have messed with oil pressure. I'll see if I can get the shop teacher to let me hook a computer up to it and see whats going on.

You realize it is prefectly normal for oil pressure to drop as the oil get hotter. The oil becomes thinner as it warms up the thinner oil can slip through the noraml bearing clearances faster then the thicker oil.

Your pressures seem pretty high but that is most likely just a bad gage or sending unit. If someone came in with car with the complaint that cold they had 60 PSI oil pressureat idle but warm it was at 30 PSI I would say your car is normal. Even if it happened on a test drive of a new car GM would not touch the car they would simply say it is normal.

The rule of thumb is you need 10 PSI per 1000 RPMS. (at 3000 RPMs you need 30 PSI) Anything less than that can damage your motor. Any oil pressure over 70psi is wasting power.

I haven't touched the oil pressure sensor yet.
I thought about that gorn except this is the first time it's done it. so I don't know it the sensor started working again or if a spring somewhere is loosing tension when it gets warm.
